WHEN IN ROME - CLIFF RICHARD - With Accompaniment by THE SHADOWS - AND NORRIE PARAMOR AND HIS ORCHESTRA

If any performer justifies the title of "Golden Boy" of the- British pop music scene, that artist is Cliff Richard. No other singing star has achieved so much in such a relatively short space of time, and his seven years as a top-line professional attraction have brought him enough trophies and awards to fill a room from floor to ceiling. It is no exaggeration to say that the phenomenal Mr. Richard is a legend in his own time, and there's no field of show business in which he hasn't distinguished himself. Today, Cliff is very much an international star. His records sell in tens of thousands in countries all over the world; his films break box-office records wherever they are shown; concert appearances are guaranteed to bring out the "House Full" signs long before the show begins; and his television engagements are witnessed by audiences running into many millions. As a singer, his prowess is too well known to warrant detailed examination in the short space available here suffice to say that every one of his single, EP and LP recordings has attained best seller status on a gigantic scale. His worth as an actor, dancer and light comedian can best be judged from the success of such record-breaking films as "The Young Ones", "Summer Holiday", and "Wonderful Life". And to anyone who has ever seen him on stage, screen or TV, it goes without saying that_ he is equipped with enough charm and personality to win over the toughest of tough audiences.

This present LP specially released to meet the continued demand in Britain for more and more Cliff Richard recordings— was originally made solely for the Italian market, where Cliff is a regular chart rider. Cliff's performances are so great that Columbia felt they should be made available to British fans. On some of the titles, Cliff is backed by his erstwhile colleagues, The Shadows; on others by the Norrie Paramor Orchestra, who have backed Cliff on the bulk of his big ballad hits. All but two of the songs — Don't Talk To Him (written by Cliff) and House Without Windows—.are Italian in origin, and Cliff handles the difficult language as if he's been speaking it all his life. In fact, apart from English, Italian is the fourth foreign language Cliff has recorded in—the others being French, German and Spanish. It's not unusual to find a British artist singing in a foreign language these days, but it is rare to find such a record as polished, poised and convincing as this set by Cliff'—another valuable addition to the already bulging library of recordings by Britain's top singing star You may not understand all the words, but you can't fail to be impressed yet again by the style, finesse and all-round talent of Britain's "Golden Boy" — Cliff Richard!
